Planting & Pruning

Plants play an incredibly important part of any garden. Not only do they provide enjoyment for year- round interest in colour, texture, form they are also essential for a host of local wildlife from beneficial insects to visiting and resident bird species.  Further, they can be used for screening, shading, ground cover, drainage.  They can reduce pollution, reflect heat, cool the garden and help us to feel more relaxed and less stressed whether we are simply admiring them or working with them.  They produce material that makes fantastic mulch and compost.

That said some plants are better than others for the above benefits. Some plants can ‘overtake’ and make you feel less good about your garden.  Deciding which plants are best for your garden and its wildlife is something we do.  This is a balance of your enjoyment with wildlife interest, soil type, design intention and ongoing maintenance.  We have decades of experience in understanding what plants work best and where and for specific purposes.

Garden Inspiration can work with existing mature gardens to rejuvenate and refresh planting borders.  This typically involves pruning, transplanting and new planting elements to achieve a desired outcome, specifically, lower maintenance, more wildlife, more year- round interest. Often in these gardens the focus is to reduce the ongoing maintenance of larger ‘out of control’ areas planted many years ago.

Includes:

  • Supply of plants and trees for newly landscaped areas and planting services as per horticultural requirements and design intentions.
  • Re-work existing planting areas and introducing new plants to refresh borders.
  • Prune existing shrubs, climbers, fruit trees and smaller ornamental trees (all pruned material can be chipped on site for re-use using our compact, narrow & powerful woodchipper).
  • Pruning and training of mature climbers to include repair or replacement of supporting frameworks as required.
  • Planting bespoke areas such as pools, ponds (we have lots of experience in the selection and planting of aquatics and marginal plants), fruit trees, woodland ‘corners’, bee borders, sensory schemes
  • Teaching sessions for you to understand how to care and prune your own plants – either as part of a 90-minute consultation package or working alongside Christian on a day package.

Cost for 1 day (9-4) pruning and training is £360 to include woodchipper and travel up to 15miles: plant care sundries and additional travel is extra, costs tbc
